With kind permission from the US APDT, the UK APDT is introducing the wonderful new sport of Rally Obedience.
What is Rally?
Dog and handler team navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform such as, Sit Down Sit, Staight figure 8, Send over Jump, Recall over Jump, Left Turn. Teams navigate the course at a brisk continuous performance without direction from the judge. Handlers are encouraged to talk to their dogs during the performance.

The aim of the UK APDT is to encourage all dog owners to take part in this new sport with a view to registering and competing for Rally titles and awards.

Held at Top Bark Farm on Sunday 6th June 2010
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the APDT for asking me to judge the first U.K. Rally Trial Competition. I must also thank my team for all their help and support. I sincerely enjoyed the experience and hope the entrants gained the same enjoyment and satisfaction.
The day began with lovely warm sunshine and slightly breezy but it was unfortunate that the heavy rain hit the venue around 2 pm. Due to this, a few handlers were ‘rained off’ and others missed the presentation.
The course had 14 stations plus the Bonus exercise.
Results from this first Rally competition proved extremely promising with 13 qualifiers out of 46 entries, having scores of between 171 and 190. Winner of the class was Glenis Charles with her Border Collie Naunton Fable. 2nd Jan Sharp with Working Sheepdog Ruby, 3rd Julie Osborne working a superb round with her Jack Russell Minnie.
Well done everyone.
Carole Thornley Ad. Dip. CBM.
