The APDT and assistance dogs
If you have been directed to the Association of Pet Dog Trainers by any of the dog assistance charities because you do not meet their criteria or they have a waiting list, please be aware of the following:
The Association of Pet Dog Trainers is not a registered charity.
The Association of Pet Dog Trainers is a pet dog association not an assistance dog charity or association.
The Association of Pet Dog Trainers cannot qualify a dog to become an assistance dog.
Association of Pet Dog Trainers trainers may charge for their services.
The Association of Pet Dog Trainers does not provide dogs or puppies.
Some of the training needed for assistance dogs is highly specialised, e.g. seizure alert dogs. This is not usually within the scope of pet dog training services.
Many Association of Pet Dog Trainers trainers will be happy to help you teach your dog various tasks that can help in everyday life.
